Obituary for Kathleen Ann Wood

Kathleen Ann Wood, age 71 of Willowbrook, IL, formerly of Oak Park and Lombard, IL, and Camp Douglas, WI, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 6, 1948 in Chicago, IL the daughter of William and Anne Nickels.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Lauren) Smotrys, Jennifer Jaloway, and Michael (Jessica) Smotrys; her 12 grandchildren; her siblings, Dennis, Patrick (Doreen), Jamie Goblet, Judy (Robert) Johnson, Paul, James, and Annie Nickels; and numerous "a shit load" of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil Wood; brother, Timothy Nickels; and beloved son-in-law, John Jaloway.

Kathleen went to Foreman High School, graduating in 1966. She earned certification as a surgical technician and a secretarial certificate from Northwestern Business College. She worked for a private detective, the FBI, and the Med Eval Corporation among others. She also did day care for many years, and was known as a ‘baby whisperer’. She was a voracious reader, a talented seamstress and knitter, crocheter, and cross-stitcher, and enjoyed studying Astrology.

She will be remembered for a wonderful sense of humor, her love and compassion for animals, and wishing she had graduated from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Memorial donations in Kathleen's memory can be made to Seasons Hospice, 6880 N. Frontage Road, Burr Ridge, IL 60527 or to West Suburban Humane Society,1901 Ogden Ave., Downers Grove, IL 60515.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
