Obituary for Mack B. Stone

Mack B. Stone, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Tabor Hills Senior Living, Naperville. He was born February 7, 1924 in St. Louis, MO, to his loving late parents, Marc B. and Mary Lael Stone.

Dear husband of the late Vallee Jo Stone, wedded on April 8, 1951. Beloved father of Brenda (Dave) Knapp of Glen Ellyn, IL and the late Bruce Stone. Adored grandfather of Charles Joseph, Sarah Lael, and Audrey McLear Knapp. Devoted brother of the late Robert F. Stone and Bonnie Lael Swain. Dearest uncle of Don, Doug, Dale and Robert Stone. He was loved by all in the extended family and old and new friends alike.

Mack was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia. He served in WWII as an artillery technical sergeant in the 78th Infantry Lightning Division, spending three years overseas, serving in Germany, France and Belgium and taking part in the Battle of Remagen. In 2015, Mack traveled to Washington D.C as part of the Honor Flight.

Mack was a dedicated 36 year employee of Brown Shoe Manufacturing Company of St. Louis. He had a heart for service, volunteering over the years in psychiatric hospitals, prisons, homeless shelters, and many other places of healing and recovery. When not working, reading or serving others, Mack enjoyed a game of handball and ice cream. Aligned with his selfless spirit, Mack’s wish was to donate his earthly body to science.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Karen House Catholic Worker, 1840 Hogan Street, St. Louis, MO 63106.

Private Memorial Mass to be held at St. Francis Xavier College Church.

Arrangements entrusted to Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, Naperville, IL
