Obituary for Norman F. Eslinger

Norman F. Eslinger, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2018. He was a 45-year resident of Naperville, IL and a more recent resident of Park Place of Elmhurst in Elmhurst, IL.

Loving father of Ellen Eslinger, Mary(Patrick) Bauer, Maureen (Jeffery) Dahlen, John (Tina) Eslinger, Patricia Pappageorge, Thomas Eslinger, and Moira (Robert) Morris.

Beloved grandfather of Matthew, Caroline, Hunter, Amelia, and Joseph Bauer; Elizabeth Dahlen; Alex and Morgan Eslinger; Nicholas, Julia, and Kathryn Pappageorge; Kathleen, Erin, and Jack Morris.

Dear brother of John Eslinger and fond uncle of Kathleen Herr and Linda Lewotsky, and brother-in law of Kathleen Jaszka.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dolores Eslinger. Born in Chicago on January 6, 1923, Norman Francis Eslinger was the son of John and Adeline Eslinger. He graduated high school in 1940 from St. Phillips Basilica High School in Chicago. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology in 1948. He later continued to advance his education by earning a Masters of Law degree from DePaul University in 1957.

Norman took pride in his military service in the US Army Air Corp in 1943, earning his pilot’s wings in 1944, and flew B-26 bombers. He continued to serve after WWII in the Reserve through 1953 as a flight instructor at O’Hare Field. In 2015, he was honored to be recognized for his service with a day of remembrance in Washington DC by participating in Honor Flight Chicago.

Norman spent the majority of his professional career working at GATX Corporation, a leader in the railcar transportation industry as the Director of Safety until his retirement. A man with many interests, he was an active ham radio operator, a competitive chess player, and passionate about aircraft and flying throughout his life.

He loved connecting his heart and mind with engaging conversation among many friends and caregivers along the way. Most of all he loved his faith and his family.
