Obituary for Jerome A. "Jerry" Nudera, Sr.

Jerome A. "Jerry" Nudera, Sr., age 87, of Shorewood, IL, formerly of Wheaton, Cicero, and Chicago, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Alden Estates of Naperville, IL. He was born December 13, 1930 in Chicago.

Beloved husband of the late Elsie A. Nudera (nee Turek), whom he married June 14, 1952 and who preceded him in death on November 21, 2017, loving father of Jo Ann (Gary) Kujawinski, grandchildren: Cheryl Kujawinski (Jason Chudy), Karen Rivera, Gary, Jr. (Ervin Malakaj), and Joseph Kujawinski; Jerome A. (Marianne) Nudera, Jr., grandchildren: Jerome III, Robert, and Mark Nudera; James A. (Linda) Nudera, grandchildren: James, Jr, Brailey, Brian, and Evelyn Nudera; Judith A. (David) Petrosky, grandchildren: Jennifer (Matthew) Rader, and William Petrosky; John A. (Gail) Nudera, grandchildren: Natalie, John Jr., and Annarose Nudera; Jacqueline A. (Michael) Gulczynski, grandchildren: Jacqueline, Michael Jr. and the late PFC Leonard Gulczynski II and Jeffrey A. (Beth) Nudera, grandchildren: Catherine and Nicole Nudera, great-grandfather of Oliver Chudy, Natanael and Jacob Rivera, devoted son of the late Jerry A. and Bessie (nee Zima) Nudera, dear brother of Janice Gonzales, fond brother-in-law of Mary Lou Counce, cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.

Jerry grew up on Chicago's West Side and was a 1948 graduate of Farragut High School where he was a member of band playing the sousaphone, a brass instrument in the same family as the more widely known tuba. He served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He was stationed at Killeen Base in Fort Hood, TX and was honorably discharged as a corporal. Jerry worked as a meat market manager for many years with various stores including Courtesy Foods, Chicago and more recently, Butera Market in Elgin, IL where he retired in 2003. He was a member of the Retail Meat Cutters union.

Jerry was a current member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood and a former member of St. Frances Of Rome Church in Cicero and St. Daniel The Prophet, Wheaton. He was a former member of the Morton East High School Football Father's Club, the St. Frances Of Rome school board, American Legion Post 1080, Joliet, IL. Jerry was active with the Boy Scouts of America and was former scoutmaster of Troop #345. He was an avid crossword puzzle solver.

Visitation Thursday, March 8, 2018, 3:00-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 9, 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave., Shorewood, IL.

Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
