Obituary for James Byrne Huffman

James "Byrne" Huffman, age 81, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1973, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born November 19, 1936 in Muskogee, OK. He grew up in Sweetwater, TX and Haynesville, LA.

Beloved husband of Sharon Huffman (nee Whiting), whom he married June 6, 1957, loving father of Lisa (Doug) Miller of Arden, NC, Diane (Doug) Ritzmann of Naperville and the late James Blair Huffman and the late Cynthia Ann Huffman, loving grandfather of Nathanael, Marianna, Elizabeth and Jonathan Miller; Will, Cole and Avery Ritzmann, devoted son of the late James P. and Virginia (nee Byrne) Huffman, brother-in-law of E. Herschel (Myrtis) Whiting III of Fort Worth, TX, fond uncle of Herschel, Greg and Christina Whiting, great-uncle of Elizabeth and Patrick, and friend to many.

Byrne earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in chemical engineering from Rice University, Houston, TX and served with the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves in the 1960's. Throughout a long and successful career, Byrne was employed in various places around the globe with Union Carbide, Houston. He moved to Naperville to work for Quaker Oats. He traveled the world in his position with United States Gypsum Corporation (USG Corporation), Chicago, where he retired as Vice President of Engineering in 2001. Byrne was a member and Elder at Grace Community Christian Church, Aurora, IL.

Byrne loved music. He played clarinet in the Rice University Marching Band and tried not to miss Naperville Municipal Band Concerts.

Services were private.
