Obituary for Harold E. Dhuse

Harold E. Dhuse, age 93, resident of Plainfield, IL since 1950 (formerly of Oswego, IL) passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. He was born February 12, 1924 on his grandparents' farm in Yorkville, IL. He was the devoted son of the late Paul W. and Gertrude L. (nee Wollenweber) Dhuse.

Beloved husband of the late Arlene Dhuse (nee Mundt), whom he married February 8, 1948 at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Joliet, IL and who preceded him in death on July 24, 1991. Loving father of Roger Dhuse of Muskegon, MI and Karyl Holmstrom of Plainfield, adored grandfather of Ryan (Kristen) Dhuse, Alec Dhuse and Kara (Sean) Paul, cherished great-grandfather of Grace Dhuse, dear brother of Darlene (the late Gordon) Strong of Aurora, IL, fond uncle, great-uncle, beloved companion of the late Elaine Lancaster, and friend of many.

Harold was a farmer all his life, a true caretaker of the land. In addition to raising corn and soybeans, he maintained a successful dairy operation for twenty years, recognized as the last dairy farm in the township. He was a longtime active member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Joliet where he served as an Elder and as a Council member for 32 years. Always seen with an overcrowded key ring attached to his belt, Harold proudly served as Property Chairman of the Church and faithfully maintained the Church Cemetery for many years.

Harold and his wife, Arlene, were involved with the Plainfield Band Boosters for more than twenty years, serving in many capacities including chairing the Midwest Music Festival. He especially enjoyed camping in his travel trailer on annual family vacations all over the country and with his St. Peter Fellowship Club members, fondly known as “the Wagon Master.” Harold also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, and was thrilled to see the team become World Series Champions in 2016.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jason Suh, Dr. Riten Sheth, Dr. Daniele De Girolami, Dr. Kevin Gordon, to the staff at Joliet Oncology Hematology Associates Ltd, and to Joliet Area Community Hospice for their loving and compassionate care for Harold since his pancreatic cancer diagnosis 14 months ago.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 26, 2018, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home, 15219 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield, IL.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of Services at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 310 N. Broadway, Joliet IL 60435, (815) 722-3567 with Rev. Karl Hess officiating.

Interment: Plainfield Township Cemetery, Plainfield.
