Obituary for Walter J. "Wally" Bohenek

Walter J. "Wally" Bohenek, age 92, World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, a resident of Beacon Hill Senior Living in Lombard, IL, formerly of Hillside, Naperville and Plainfield, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2020 at his home. He was born January 27, 1928 in Chicago, IL.

Beloved husband of Geraldine "Geri" Bohenek (nee Wodka), whom he married August 13, 1960, loving father of Sharon (Tim) Sargent of Cassopolis, MI, Carolyn (Jack) Molskow of Winfield, IL, Wayne Bohenek of Cincinnati, OH, Linda Ells of Bolingbrook, IL and Doreen (Joe) Thibault of Plainfield, IL, adored grandfather and "Strongest Man in the World" to Alex (Ashley), Lee and Peter (Andrea) Sargent; Melissa (Kendrick) Burrage, Kyle and Shelly Molskow; Ryan, Austin (Sydney), Luke and Eric Bohenek; Julia, Grace and Leah Ells; Lauren and Nicholas Thibault, cherished great-grandfather of Finley Burrage and Leo Bohenek, devoted son of the late Leopold and Victoria Bochenek, dear brother of the late Edward Bochenek, Helen Gilhooly, Rose Wysocki, Frank Bohenek and Chester Bochenek, fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.

Wally grew up on Chicago’s South Side, was a 1945 graduate of Harrison High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from March 1946 to September 1947, stationed in the Philippines. He was employed for 46 years as a printer for R.R. Donnelley, Chicago, retiring in 1990.

Wally was a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Lombard, a former member of St. Domitilla Catholic Church, Hillside, St. Raphael Catholic Church, Naperville and St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Romeoville, IL. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Loyal Order of the Moose. Wally was a talented gymnast in his youth and was a skilled woodworker. He will be remembered and loved for his corny jokes, silly card tricks and warm smile.

Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020, 9:30-10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church 1501 S. Main St., Lombard, IL 60148, (630) 629-1717.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Saturday, 10:30 AM in the church.

Future inurnment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
