Obituary for Roy James Forsythe

Roy James Forsythe, 86, passed away at Hines VA medical center and returned to his heavenly home on March 2, 2019. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him throughout his life and ultimately gave him peace.

Roy was born to the late Roy and Regina Forsythe (Dunn), on July 20, 1932 in West Bend, IA. He attended West Bend High School and enlisted in the Navy during the Korean Conflict where he served in the construction battalion, Sea Bees. He later attended the Chicago Engineering College.

Roy was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Carol Marie Kulisek of Cicero, IL, on April 27, 1957 in Cicero, IL. Roy and Carol were blessed with ten children, 28 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He managed his own construction company, working full time into his 80’s. He committed his life to serving the Catholic Church as a lector, eucharistic minister, religious education teacher, a bible study leader at St. Leonard Catholic Church in Berwyn, IL, and was a prayer group leader at Aylesford Prayer Group in Darien, IL.

Roy was a builder at heart. He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small to help lift people up. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at home with his creator.

Roy is survived by his wife, Carol; his children: Roy (Barbara) Forsythe, John (Wendy) Forsythe, Paul (Catherine) Forsythe, Betsy (John) Winters, Kristin (John) Poremski, Peter Forsythe, David (Alexis) Forsythe, Kevin (Carmina) Forsythe, Dan (Heather) Forsythe, Katie (Justin) Asch, and their children and grandchildren, as well as, his brother Ray (Donna) Forsythe and sisters Shirley Goldtrap, Colleen Kollasch and Georgean Hadley. He will also be remembered by many nephews, nieces and cousins. He is preceded in death by his brothers: Jim, Bob and George Forsythe; his parents; and his grandson, Roy Jason Forsythe.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 3:00-9:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville and Friday, March 8, 10:00-10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM. Interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
