Obituary for Robert S. Bonds

Robert S. Bonds, age 75, a resident of Plainfield, IL and formerly a longtime resident of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2019, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 18, 1943 in Evergreen Park, IL to Sigmund and Berneice (nee Bajgrowicz) Bonds, who preceded him in death.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne (nee Miller) Bonds; his children, Devin (Michelle) Bonds and Brooke (Robert) Bonds Kuempel; his grandchildren, Maxwell Bonds, Madison Kuempel, Mason Kuempel, Kaien Kuempel, Nolan Bonds, Joanna Bonds and Colton Bonds; his siblings, Jacquelyn Bonds and Leonard Genardo; his nieces and nephews, Jacquelyn (Jeff) Camper, Ron (Lynn) Jonites Kimberly (Edward) Kaminski, Michael Genardo; as well as many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, in-law’s and friends.

Bob was born in Evergreen Park, IL, and lived most of his life in Chicago. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967 and received his honorable discharge. He was a member of the American Legion. Bob started his career in the meat packing business, working in the old Back of the Yards for Glenn & Anderson for many years. He changed careers and worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Cook County beginning in the late 1980’s and retired in late 2012. A member of the American Legion, Bob was also an avid fisherman, enjoyed to cook for his family and friends, was a gifted artist and painter, and loved Da Bears! He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 28, 2:00 until 7:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 29, 9:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2500 Arbeiter Rd., Joliet. Interment with military honors will follow at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
