Obituary for Phylis A. DeVilbiss

Phylis A. DeVilbiss, age 91, of Oak Park/River Forest, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019 at St. Patrick's Residence, Naperville, IL. She was born May 20, 1928 in Quincy, IL to Henry and Cornelia DeVilbiss.

Phylis is survived by her brother, Charles E. (Kathleen) DeVilbiss of Bloomindale, IL; 26 nieces and nephews, a large extended family and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Mildred "Mitzi" DeVilbiss, Mary (Wayne) Pierce, Rita (Norbert) Cramsey and her nephew Lynn Cramsey.

Phylis grew up in Quincy and attended Notre Dame of Quincy High School where she was a member of the softball and basketball teams and marching band. Following high school, she moved to Chicago with her sister, Mitzi and brother, Chuck. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Education from DePaul University and her Masters Degree in Education from University of Arizona.

A devoted member of St. Edmunds Parish in Oak Park, Phylis sang alto in the choir well into her eighties. In her younger years, she was a member of the Oak Park/River Forest theatre group, enjoyed playing golf in the Columbus Park League and was an avid Cubs fan.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 17th at St. Edmund Catholic Church, 188 S. Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park, IL. Her final resting place, alongside her parents and dear sister Mitzi, will be at Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Carmelite Sisters for Aged and Infirm (www.carmelitesisters.com). Arrangements were entrusted to Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Naperville, IL.
