Obituary for Paul R. Oestry

Paul R. Oestry, age 91, born in Downers Grove, IL and a resident of Naperville, IL since 1951, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Sunrise Naperville North in Naperville.

Beloved husband of the late Janet L. Oestry (nee Brown), whom he married October 6, 1951 and who preceded him in death on March 30, 1997, lovingly devoted father of Linda Oestry Richardson of Glen Carbon, IL and Nancy (Ray) Tyl of Montgomery, IL, adored grandfather of Reed and Juliana Richardson and Jennifer Tyl, devoted son of the late Paul H. and Viola A. (nee Bolten) Oestry, dear brother of the late David L. Oestry, brother-in-law of Joan Oestry Carpenter, fond uncle of many, including James Oestry, Sandra (Dave) Doubek and Lee (Dan) Neils, cousin, great-uncle, great-great uncle and a loyal friend to many including his dogs and parrot.

Paul grew up in Downers Grove and was a 1946 graduate of Downers Grove High School. He began a long career in the automotive trade working for the local Pontiac and Buick dealerships while in high school. In 1947, Paul bought the future site of Oestry Motor Company at 655 N. Washington St., Naperville and opened for business on September 15, 1953 specializing in automotive repair, restoration and car sales.

Blessed with an excellent memory, Paul was a reservoir of old stories and a source of wise advice. Paul had the innate ability to repair most anything. Generous with his time and expertise, he enjoyed assisting friends with the restoration of antique autos and a variety of airplanes.

In addition to automobiles, Paul had a lifelong love of aviation. An avid pilot, he was a longtime member of the Naper Aero Club, The Antique Airplane Association, Inc. and The Experimental Aircraft Association.

Paul was also interested in the lapidary arts and enjoyed cutting gems stones and making jewelry for family and friends. He was an enthusiastic collector of rocks, minerals and fossils and enjoyed collecting them with his family.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 7, 2019, 3:00-9:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held Saturday, June 8, 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
