Obituary for Maurice E. "Gene" Mason

Maurice E. "Gene" Mason, age 89, Korean War U.S. Air Force veteran, a resident of Naperville, IL, formerly of Mount Morris, IL, Etowah, NC and Shawnee, OK, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Sunrise Assisted Living on Chicago Avenue in Naperville, IL. He was born September 19, 1929 in Shawnee, OK.

Beloved husband of the late Mary C. Mason (nee Wycoff), whom he married August 20, 1955 and who preceded him in death on May 22, 2010, loving father of Marjorie "Chloe" Mason of Lawrence, KS, Marilyn Mason (Belinda Cheek) of Naperville, IL and Mitchell Mason of Mt. Pleasant, MI, adored grandfather of Ceridwen "Ceri" (Chris) Goulter of Lawrence, KS and the late Bridget Hedman, cherished great-grandfather of Perrin and Rebecca Goulter, devoted son of the late Edith (nee Segroves) Mason Becker and Harold Mason, dear brother of Janice (Dick) Bender of Hobbs, NM, and the late Patsy Ruth Aliano.

Gene was a born engineer, always building or fixing something. He enjoyed card games and was an avid bowler. He loved gardening, and trees and had a knack for finding four leaf clovers. His career with Western Electric and later Bell Labs moved his family to many parts of the United States. The family enjoyed exploring new areas through these moves. After many years in Naperville, Gene and Mary retired to North Carolina and enjoyed that area for many years before health issues returned them to Illinois to be closer to family.

Services will be private.

Future inurnment: Rose Hill Cemetery, Tulsa, OK.
