Obituary for Judith "Judy" Adamowski

On November 20, 1942, Judy Adamowski, was born in Chicago, IL to George Slowey and MaryLou Slowey (nee Cotter). On September 26, 2019, Judy passed away due to complications from a stroke. She was 76 years old (almost 77).

She is survived by her loving children, David Adamowski of Naperville, IL and Amy Adamowski of Kapolei, HI; her cherished granddaughter, Claire; her devoted partner of 25 years, Frank Bauler; Frank’s children, Quinn, Christine, & Matthew (which she treated as her own); her former husband of 25 years, Paul Adamowski and his partner Gary; as well as many other family members and friends.

Judy was a very caring and loving soul. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Judy was a type 1 diabetic since she was 8 years old (68+ years with diabetes). To her family she was the perfect example of if you take care of your diabetes you can live a long healthy life. She kept her diabetes under good control because of her discipline. Last year she vacationed with her son, David and granddaughter, Claire to Boston. While there they visited Dr. Denise Faustman’s Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital where Judy and David, who is also a type 1 diabetic, both had blood drawn to participate in a clinical trial to potentially cure type 1 diabetes. Judy often said she didn’t think a cure would be found in her lifetime but she thought a cure would found in her son's.

The family strongly believes that Dr. Faustman’s research has a great potential to cure type 1 diabetes. She is using a generic drug used to prevent tuberculosis to lead to this potential cure. Dr. Faustman receives no funding from American Diabetes Association (ADA) or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) because there’s no profit to be made on a generic drug by the drug companies which fund most studies. Her funding completely relies on private donations. For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Judy's life, in lieu of flowers for her service, the family would prefer for you to donate towards a potential cure for diabetes: The Faustman Lab.

Please visit the links below to experience Dr. Faustman's research, trials and to donate to continue her work to find the cure to type 1 diabetes.
