Obituary for John Nick Siambis

John Nick Siambis, age 93, a longtime resident of Naperville, Illinois and a former resident of Flint, Michigan , passed away peacefully on October 29, 2019 at Edward Hospital. He was born on February 11, 1926 in Kerastari, Arcadia, Greece.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Anastasia and Nicholas Siambis, and his dear sisters, Sotiria and Georgia. John leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Pauline; his loving children, Nicholas Siambis and Nancy (Carris) Koultourides; and his cherished grandchildren, Maria and John (‘Yiannaki’). John will be greatly missed by his family and many close friends. May his memory be eternal.

John grew up in the mountains of Arcadia and attended high school in Megalopoli. He served as a Sergeant in the Greek Army and was based in various locations throughout Northern Greece. Upon his return, John contacted his uncle William Shambes and talked about immigrating to the U.S. In 1955, John's dream came true and he began his new life in America, settling in Flint, MI. He worked for General Motors Service Parts Operation in Swartz Creek, Michigan and at several Greek restaurants, including Honeydale Restaurant in Flint that was owned by his uncle. He married the love of his life, Pauline (Pishos), in 1964. They raised two children in Flint, Michigan and loved being part of the Greek community in Flint, Michigan. John was a member of Assumption Greek Orthodox church of Flint, Michigan for almost 50 years. In 2002, John and Pauline moved to Naperville, Illinois where they helped raise their two grandchildren and were the iconic yiayia and papou (grandparents) of Scott Elementary School for 10 years. John was an active member of St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Aurora, Illinois for 18 years. John enjoyed long walks, gardening, bicycling, and watching sports on TV, especially baseball. Above all else, John loved spending time with this family.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 3, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield, with Trisagion at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 4, 10:00 AM at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 1855 5th Avenue, Aurora, 60504. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park, Aurora.
