Obituary for James Douglas Sanders

James Douglas Sanders, age 85, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1959, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at home with his family by his side. He was born on February 18, 1933 in Roseland, IL.

Beloved husband of Judith A. "Judy" Sanders (nee Conley), whom he married October 23, 1954, adored father of Joy Lynn (Greg) Gilmer of Plainfield, IL, Julie Thresh of Lisle, IL and Jeanne Louise (Scott) Kimery of Naperville, IL, cherished grandfather of Samantha (Richard) O'Halloran, Ondria (Ryan) Niehoff, Kiley, Gabrielle and the late Douglas John Gilmer; Lauren and Layne Thresh; Taylor and Leah Kimery, loving great-grandfather of Ryan and Luke O'Halloran; Ruthie and Emmett Niehoff, devoted son of the late Clyde and Thelma Sanders, dear brother of the late Gloria Marie Meyer, uncle to Jennifer (Jim) De Vault, admired brother-in-law, uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews and friend to many.

James Douglas Sanders joined the United States Air Force in February of 1953. After basic training at Sampson Air Force Base (AFB) he was assigned to Luke AFB in Phoenix, AZ and from there he deployed to Pepperell AFB in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He served as a draftsman/charter for the Northeast Air Command during the Korean War. He was joined by his wife, Judy, in 1955 until his honorable discharge in December of 1956.

He was employed as a draftsman at Lyon Metal Products in 1958.

He was responsible for many cost savings suggestions at Lyon. In 1986 he was designated as an inventor of Patent No. 4,614,874 with a team of co-workers. He retired from Lyon Metal Products in 1986.

He founded Lockers of America, Ltd., a material handling/erection company from 1977 – 2003.

In 1997 he became a Partner with Indoff, Inc., a national material handling company. He managed the Naperville Branch Sales Office until his death in 2019.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, 2019, 1:00 - 6:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Additional visitation Monday, January 7, 9:00-10:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 East Gartner Rd., Naperville, IL.

Funeral services will follow Monday, 10:00 AM at the church.

Interment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
