Obituary for Jack Lane McBride

Jack Lane McBride, age 72, of Plainfield, formerly of Naperville, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Plainfield, IL. He was born on December 27, 1945 in Chicago, IL.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Shirley Ann McBride (nee Salamonski); brother in law Norb (Julie) Salamonski, dear siblings Marilyn Bermingham, Joan (Michael) Houlihan, and Charles Gill; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lorraine Gill and Jack McBride, Sr.; brother Thomas McBride; nephew Alec Salamonski; and mother-in-law Victoria Salamonski.

Jack was a proud Fourth Degree Member of The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending his free time traveling with Shirley, especially out west and particularly in Montana, Wyoming, and Yellowstone National Park. While there, he would enjoy seeing all of the local wildlife and had multiple encounters with wild horses, bison, buffalo, and even grizzly bears! What sounded like a simple road trip would often result in being in a state as far away as New York. Being that he loved to drive so much, during these trips, Jack would make it a point to stop and see every historical marker along the way. He would often say, “It is not the destination, it’s the journey.”

Jack loved fishing, swimming, gardening, playing cards, collecting matching t-shirts and belt buckles and watching NCIS. He loved all kinds of cars: classics, hot rods, etc. and even owned his own 1962 Powder Blue Thunder Bird.

He was a fan of Chicago sports and would wear outfits to match the team that he was rooting for.

He will be remembered as being a kind man who loved his dogs and would strike up a conversation with everyone, especially while waiting in his truck while Shirley was shopping. He would wait in the parking lot for her with his window down and chat with people coming and going. He would also use that time to call his family to catch up with them.

He was always willing to help anyone in need, whether it be his neighbors who needed help plowing in the winter or a stranded motorist on the side of the road. He would do whatever he could. He even volunteered his time as being Santa Claus for all of the local children.

Jack touched the lives of all who met him and will be deeply missed.

Family and friends will gather Friday, December 7th 10:00-11:00 AM for visitation until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2500 Arbeiter Road, Joliet, IL 60431.
