Obituary for Herbert E. Wilson

Herbert Eugene Wilson Jr. passed away on February 28, 2020. Herbert was born December 21, 1928 to Herbert E. Wilson Sr. and Thelma (Hoin) in Lancaster Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Romaine (Winters). His only son David Wilson. Also his second wife Anne Mae Wilson.

He is survived by his loving niece Mary and her husband Mark Duquette, their children and grandchildren of Illinois. Granddaughter Michelle and (Andy) Ayers, Grandson Michael Wilson, four great grandchildren Alex and Kate Ayers, Chance and Jake Wilson of Pennsylvania.

Herbert moved to Illinois to live with his niece and her loving family until his passing.

Mr. Wilson (Herb) was a machinist by trade in his early years and worked for the Hamilton Watch Company before enlisting into the service in WWII.

He was Sergeant in the Army Air Force which then turned into the Airforce. After leaving the service he went on to earn 2 masters degrees in education. He was a teacher, counselor and principle for the Delaware school district until his retirement. While teaching Herb, would administer the GED to the prison inmates in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Mr. Wilson (Herb) while in Illinois, he tutored and mentored at Illinois youth center for girls for several years.
Herb loved to sing, in his earlier years enjoyed singing in a Barbershop quartet to which he was very accomplished.

After his retirement Herb went into buying selling Antiques. He ran a very successful business in Pennsylvania for many years. He had a great eye for his unusual and extraordinary antiques for which many people would come from great distances to purchase his treasured fines. After moving to Illinois, he rented space in Wales Wisconsin and in Sandwich Illinois and continued with buying and selling antiques until he retired at the age of 93. After his retirement from antiques he enjoyed playing a skillful hand of 500 Rummy with anyone who wanted to play a few hands. Many lost to him. Backgammon, suduko and reading were his past time.

Herb was loved by all that meet him and will be greatly missed. He always had a smile and a song or a little ditty for any all. His favorite saying , " Why does the grass grow so green Uncle Tom? Bullshit, little Eva, Bullshit!"

Herb's final resting place will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Joliet Illinois.

Committal services with full military honors; Monday, April 13th 11:30 AM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL 60421.
