Obituary for Helen B. Malleris

Helen Malleris (nee Buzanis), age 97, a Naperville, IL resident since 1994, formerly of the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. She was born July 12, 1922 in Chicago, IL.

Beloved wife of the late Constantine "Gus" Malleris, whom she married December 8, 1947 and who preceded her in death on September 25, 1983, loving mother of George C. (Dawn Kolar) Malleris of Shorewood, IL, Leonidas "Lee" (Alice 'Kiki' Kritick) Malleris of Barrington, IL and the late William J. "Bill" Malleris, adored grandmother of Alexander C. (Jennifer) Malleris, Danielle C. (Angel) Malleris-Garcia, Nicholas C. "Nico" Malleris, Dominic G. Malleris, Christian P. Malleris, Jordan H. "Jo Jo" Malleris and Andrew Malleris, great-grandmother of Gabriella "GG", Alexandria "Allie" and Andrew J. "AJ", devoted daughter of the late George and Theodora (nee Ganas) Malleris, dear sister of the late William Buzanis, John Buzanis, Bertha (the late Gus) Cheopelas, Gus (the late Helen) Buzanis and Betty (the late George) Fotiu, fond aunt of many, including Georgia Cheopelas, Theodora "Teddie" Cheopelas, Jon "Skip" Buzanis, Gary Buzanis, Gayle "Kiki" Gribow, Gust "Dino" Fotiu and Tina Brown, Godmother to Theodora "Teddie" Fotiu, Jordan H. "Jo Jo" Malleris and Phillip Anast, great-aunt and friend of many.

Helen grew up in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood, attended Bowen High School (Class of 1940) and later in life, at the age of 72, earned an associate's degree in Business from Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, IL.

Helen was a hat designer and model and worked for Kraft Foods before marrying and starting her family. She was employed for many years as a receptionist for Moraine Valley Community College.

Helen was a former longtime member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Palos Hills, IL and Saint Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, Aurora, IL.

Helen enjoyed participating in several women's investment clubs, playing the lottery and was a proud former chairperson for the 1968 Hellenic League Debutante Cotillion. She will be remembered for being passionate about education and as a selfless caregiver for her late son, Bill.

Due to the current health crisis, a private visitation and funeral service will be held Thursday, May 7th, 2020 at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Palos Hills, IL with Father Tom DeMedeiros officiating. Per CDC regulations, the visitation will be limited to 10 people.

A private interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL with a restricted number allowed at graveside.
