Obituary for Gregg A. Hanyzeski

Gregg A. Hanyzeski, age 52, a lifelong resident of Naperville, IL, passed away suddenly on March 26, 2019 at his home. Born on October 20, 1966, Gregg was the youngest child of Andrew and Elaine Hanyzeski. Truly “the baby” of not only the six siblings in his immediate family, but of 23 first cousins as well.

Gregg attended Mill Street and Elmwood Elementary schools, Lincoln Junior High and graduated from Naperville Central High School in 1984. In his youth, Gregg played Naperville Little League baseball, swam at Centennial Beach, biked all over town (yes, to Cock Robin), and wrestled in junior high and high school. He was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts; hiked at Philmont Scout Ranch. Gregg certainly learned and lived the “Be Prepared” Motto.

Trustworthy, kind, generous, truthful and supportive of his family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and most anyone he came into contact, Gregg was the man you could rely on to help with a smile on his face, a joke or two, and he was sure to supply good music to lighten the task at hand. Gregg possessed a strong work ethic, but lived for enjoying his favorite past-times – fishing, boating, camping, skiing, and spending time with family and friends (of course he brought his stash of essentials no one else would think of bringing).

A proud, fun-loving Parrothead, Gregg travelled the country and world attending Jimmy Buffett concerts and enjoying island life, scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, swimming, rum (boat) drinks, dancing and singing with friends and family he met and re-met along the way.

He was a die-hard fan of the Chicago White Sox, Bears and Blackhawks.

Gregg was a former member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and a current member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, both in Naperville.

Gregg is survived by his loving mother, Elaine Hanyzeski; his siblings Gary of Naperville, Nancy (Joel) Cartee of St Charles, James (Kim) of Bonita Springs, FL and Julie (Bryan) Plesha of Aurora; his brother-in-law, Don Hiltz of Sandwich; 10 nieces and nephews whom he adored; best friend Kevin Haas; many extended family members; and his sweet kittens Lucy and Elliott.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Hanyzeski; his sister, Vicki Hiltz; and his Grandparents Andrew & Agnes Hanyzeski, and Andrew & Bertha Kurcab.
