Obituary for Eulogio Villano Bejec

Eulogio V. Bejec was a loving husband, adored grandfather and guiding elder in his family. His path filled with love embodied the way of Christ, and his strength allowed him to overcome so much on his journey. His life story was not perfect or without obstacles, but it was beautiful. He worked hard to become a Certified Public Accountant during his time in his home country, the Philippines and he eventually made the decision with his wife, Lilia to emigrate to the United States on September 20, 1975 to pursue the American Dream. They had their first child, Dwight the following year.

Ever inspired by his life verse: Matthew 6:33 and his faith and trust in Jesus Christ he worked hard to build a life with his family in the United States. It was not easy, at times it seemed insurmountable, and as life would have it the family faced the daunting heartache of a cancer diagnosis in 1982.

Yet, God had a different plan. He bestowed a miracle and Eulogio survived his battle with Histiocytic lymphoma in 1982 and went into remission. His life changed, his outlook was clear and he took heed with his second chance at life, continuing to fill it with love and living it to its fullest. Embedding the ideals of love and light into his family.

His career in the US took him many places including working as: an accountant for Hilton Hotel and Combined Insurance in Chicago, as an auditor for Sheraton, Marriott, Hyatt Regency, Drake Hotel and Palmer House. He managed the DJ& R’s Jewelers as a co-owner with Domie Tacadena which he described as adventurous and challenging. They eventually sold the business and he worked for the United Postal Services as a processing clerk until he retired in 2015.

Eulogio, lovingly known by many as Yul, was the pillar of his family. He found joy and laughter with his youngest grand daughter Sophia, was able to watch his step grand daughter Bella grow up and loved all of the children in his extended family. He also found joy in the love of his life - Lilia to whom he was married for nearly 46 years. She was his rock and his favorite adventurer. After retiring he and Lilia traveled the world and spent most of their winter months at their vacation homes in the Philippines.

He enjoyed serving as a greeter at the Compass Church in Naperville. Yul and Lilia led an International Group that he liked very much. He and his wife also helped build Village Baptist Church (Aurora) and served with his heart during his time there. He also served as deacon for many years at the Bible Baptist Church (Romeoville).

Yul passed away peacefully surrounded by his closest family on Dec 6, 2019 at 10 am at Edward Hospital in Naperville.

Yul will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Lilia Santiago Bejec, son, Dwight Joseph Bejec (Jennifer), grand daughter Sophia and step grand daughter Bella, siblings Dr. Paz Sales (Onofre), Eufrecina , Pilar, Oscar (Mila), Alex (Marianita), Evangeline and several nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces all over the world.

For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Yul's life, memorial donations may be directed to The Compass Church Rise Up.
