Obituary for Edwin Earle Hedeen

Edwin Earle (Ed) Hedeen, 79, of Warrenville, IL passed away October 26, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Silverado Senior Living in Naperville, IL.

He is survived by his wife Kay (née Karlson-Hitchman) of 15 years, daughter Karen Choudhury of Chicago, son John Spencer Hedeen (Adena) of Bartlett; step-sons Dr. Theron Hitchman (Jean) of Cedar Falls, IA, Adam Hitchman (Kelley) of San Antonio, TX and Daniel Hitchman of Naperville, IL; grandchildren Jordan, Miranda, Danielle and Ethan Hedeen; David, Julia, Penelope, Kiera, Jaxon and Maxine Hitchman; sister Mary June Tartan of Youngstown, OH, ex-wife LeeAnn Hedeen (née Ciotti) of Orland Park, IL, and niece Suzannah Tartan-Hunt of NY, NY.

Ed graduated from Wilkinsburg, PA High School in 1958, and Duquesne University in 1964, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and a reservist in the United States Marine Corps. He received a Masters in Business Administration from Akron University, Akron, OH.

Ed’s business career spanned several years in sales with Westinghouse, and he took Ideal School Supply public as the company’s President. In 1988 he became a business owner with the purchase of Cox Automation in Villa Park, IL and Voltronics, Inc., Chicago, IL in 1994.

Ed was a member of Rotary International, serving twice as President of the West Chicago
Rotary Club and Assistant Governor to District 6440. He also held offices of club secretary, Scholarship Chairman and Group Study Exchange Leader (Japan) and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Ed also served as a mentor to Chicago Careers for Youth, Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way, Junior Achievement and DuPage Literacy. Ed was also a member of the Illinois Manufacturers Association.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson and Mary (née Elder) and brother Robert.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until the time of the memorial service 6:00 PM on November 3, 2018, under the direction of Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville, IL 60540, with Mr. Bruce Treudt officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimers Association Illinois Chapter, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr, Suite 800 Chicago, IL 60631.
