Obituary for Arthur Eugene Muehlhausen

Arthur Eugene Muehlhausen, age 87, passed away on April 27, 2019 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, IL. He was born on July 4, 1931 in Logansport, IN.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Theresa (nee Jones) Muehlhausen; the love of his life, his wife, Ellen (nee Maloney); his son, Scott; his brother and sister, Douglas and Judy, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his sons, Robert, Steven, Russell, and Michael, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his extended Rotary family and many friends.

After graduating from Calumet in 1949, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served for two years. He attended night school at Wilson Junior College, pursuing a degree in Business Law and Accounting. By day he worked at Midwest Spring Manufacturing Co. where he eventually became the Purchasing Manager. He retired from Midwest Spring in 1997.

Art was a founding member of the Romeoville Chamber of Commerce, serving as their first president. He was also a member of the American Legion No. 43. A past-District Governor of Rotary District 6450, Art was active in Rotary for 45 years. He held many offices at the local and district level throughout the years, and loved working with the Rotary Youth Exchange program in particular. Art was instrumental in starting 17+ Rotary Clubs.

An active parishioner at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Naperville, Art served on many committees and was a lector regularly. He enjoyed being a member of the Lame Ducks Club and, at one time, the Lunch Bunch.

Art was card carrying member of the Nolan-Julian extended family Rummy Club. He was a voracious reader. Resilient, he never let his medical maladies get him down. He loved being around other people. Art had a hearty laugh and shared it frequently.

Art’s commitment to his faith, to volunteerism and to his community defined him. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Rotary International or Rotary Club of Naperville-Sunrise Clean Water Project.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
