Obituary for William B. "Bill" McManus

William Bernard “Bill” McManus, 83, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1972, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2018, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by parents, Josephine and Bernard McManus and brother, Robert McManus.

Survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Elaine (nee Schaeffer) McManus of Naperville and six children: Mary Ellen Howard (Brad) of Gilbert, AZ; Nancy McManus of Scottsdale, AZ; William M. McManus (Lisa) of Frisco, TX; , Maureen Reinert (Thomas) of Austin, TX; Monica Stegman (David) of Naperville, IL; and, Joseph McManus of Naperville, IL. He also leaves behind seven adoring grandchildren: Tyler Reinert, Austin and Ashlyn Howard, Maggie and Jacob Stegman, Ella and Molly McManus.

Bill was born August 11, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ and was a 1952 graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Westfield, NJ. He was a 1956 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in chemical engineering. Bill served in the U.S. Army from May 21, 1957 to May 20, 1959 in the Army Chemical Corps, the branch of the Army tasked with defending against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons. He joined United States Gypsum (USG) in 1959 and worked in various positions for 37 years before retiring in 1996 as Executive Vice President and COO of USG Interiors. Having served as President of the Naperville Noon Lions Club, Bill was instrumental in the development of the Naperville Turkey Trot. He served as a communion minister at St. Margaret Mary Parish. A life-long Golden Domer and proud member of the Notre Dame Club, Bill loved his Fighting Irish. He treasured his faith, family, service to others, and friends.

Visitation Sunday, March 11, 2018, 2:00-7:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 12, 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1450 Green Trails Dr., Naperville.

Interment: Private.
