Obituary for Vicente "Vince" C. Pangelinan

Vicente "Vince" Pangelinan, age 83, a resident of Naperville, IL and a former longtime resident of Zion, IL, passed away peacefully on March 16th at Edward Hospital, Naperville, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 24, 1934 in Hagåtña, Guam.

Vince is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Pangelinan (nee Caingat), his loving children Alan Pangelinan and Lynn (Rob Blaszak), and his 4 grandchildren, Zackary, Kelsey, Emily and Allison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vicente and Maria Pangelinan, as well as his siblings, Rosita Muna, Jackson Pangelinan and Pete Pangelinan.

Vince served in the US Navy for 25 years and received an honorable discharge in 1974. During the Vietnam War, he was an aviation machinist with the Airborne Early Warning Squadron ONE (VW-1), Guam’s Famous Typhoon Trackers. As crew leader, he rebuilt piston-powered engines after they’ve been airborne for a number of hours. Vince and Dottie settled down in northern Illinois to raise their children and became active members of the Our Lady of Humility Parish in Beach Park, IL. He retired after 20 years on the maintenance team at Zion Benton High School, where he proudly kept the building and grounds in pristine condition.

In his spare time, Vince enjoyed tinkering around the house and yard being the renowned “Mr. Fixit.” He also would often take to his guitar, singing along to Chamorro tunes or, his personal favorite, Don Ho’s “Tiny Bubbles.” With his kind heart and generosity, Vince earned the name of “Mr. P” from many ZB friends. Those who knew him will agree: his infectious smile could light any room.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses of Edward Hospital Cardiac-Neuro Intensive Care Unit that made Vince’s stay comfortable and peaceful. Because of your help, Papa P went to heaven with dignity. Our family is incredibly grateful for your caring and thoughtful team that supported our family during such a difficult time.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
