Obituary for Olga De La Rosa

Olga De La Rosa, a longtime resident of Carillon of Plainfield and most recently a resident of Senior Star in Romeoville, passed away peacefully of January 4, 2018 after fighting multiple health issues including kidney disease and chronic anemia. She was born on January 30, 1929 in Halstead and Taylor neighborhood in Chicago. Beloved wife of the late Eladio “Alex”; loving father of Stephen (Marcia) De La Rosa, the late Linda (Richard) Banczoszek and the late Andrew De La Rosa. Cherished grandmother of David (Celeste Cogana) Banczoszek, Amanda (Mark) Yeates, Jennifer (Lee) Amstutz, Jessica (Ben) Krejcie, Ian (Lindsey) De La Rosa, Christopher (Alexandria) De La Rosa, and Hudson De La Rosa. She is the great-grandmother of six children, Joseph, Joshua, Jeffrey, and Lily Amstutz, and Mason and Cole Yeates. Dear sister of Judith “Judy” Bennett and her late siblings Virginia (Carmen) Garcia, Ignacious “Natcho”(Raquel) Franco, and Robert “Bob” (Gloria) Franco.

Olga and her siblings were raised by a single mother Conception “Concha” Franco. She was a graduate of Lucy Flower High School in Chicago. She met the love of her life at a parish dance at St. Francis Church, which is the oldest Latino church in Chicago. They were active in the now historic St. Francis Wildcats, a neighborhood Latino sports and social club. Eladio and Olga were married in 1949. She rode the bus to work in binderies assembling books and later in life as a proofreader at Poole Brothers and Media Graphics, all in Chicago. She raised her family in south side Chicago, Midlothian, and Oak Forest. They settled in Tinley Park in their empty nest years before moving on to Plainfield and Romeoville. She and her husband enjoyed many years getting together with friends and family and traveled throughout North America. After retirement, Alex and Olga enjoyed country western dancing and were members of the Kingsway Kickers Country Dance Club in Joliet and Country Club Western Dance Club.

In lieu of flowers, we believe Olga would appreciate donations to the Multiple Systems Atrophy Coalition at www.multiplesystematrophy.org in memory of her daughter Linda Banczoszek, who succumbed to this disorder.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 1:00 until 4:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield.
