Obituary for John "Jack" E. Partelow

John E. “Jack” Partelow, after a long, happy and impressive life of 83 years, passed away peacefully May 29, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jack entered this world on February 5, 1935 in East St. Louis, IL to his late parents, John E. and Rose Partelow. He is survived by his cherished spouse of 59 years, Lorena, nee Gravot. He was the beloved father of John, Jr. (Ann) Partelow, Dan (Charlotta) Partelow, Michelle (Jeffrey) Metry, Scott Partelow and Kevin Partelow. He was the adored grandpa of Stefan Partelow, Linnea Partelow, Chloe Partelow, Melanie Partelow, Ryan Partelow, Breanna Metry, Brandon Metry and Peyton Metry. Jack was the fond brother of Rose Mary (Donald) Holmes and the late Thomas Partelow, the dearest uncle of many nieces and nephews and cousin to many in his sprawling Irish-Catholic clan.

Jack graduated from Assumption High School in 1954 and embarked on a varied and accomplished life and career. He enlisted in the U. S. Army to serve his country as the proud patriot that he was for his entire life. He was commissioned and served as a proud member of the elite 101st Airborne Division, the Screaming Eagles, until his discharge in 1959. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Southern Illinois University from which he launched a successful 32 year career with the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation. Upon his retirement as Senior Vice President in 1994, he set forth on the second and equally accomplished phase of his life. During this time, family, church, politics and leadership were his avocations. He served with the Will County Republican Party from 1998 through 2008, eventually becoming its Chairman. He also immersed himself in a variety of other causes, including serving on the Advisory Board of the American Red Cross. He was then appointed to the Metra Board of Directors, serving for 9 years and eventually serving as its Chairman. He was a faithful member of the congregation of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, in Naperville, Illinois where he was a resident for the last 26 years. Jack was counselor and confidant to many and a role model to all. A man possessing a strong faith, a life-long discipline and an engaging sense of humor, he was admired and respected by many and beloved by his large and extended family. Advice from Jack was often sought after and respected by all of those who knew him.
