Obituary for Gregory L. Fauth

Gregory L. Fauth, DDS, PC, age 70, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2017, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on November 18, 1947 in Aurora, IL to the late Edward H. and Frances (Miller) Fauth.

Gregory is survived by his loving wife, Geralyn (Becker) Fauth; children, Wade (Jessica Pierce) Fauth, Riley (Rachel Golda) Fauth, McKenzie Fauth (Clint) Dekker, Niki Doran (Paul) Plzak, Jill Doran (Aaron) Hoffman, and Laura Doran, and grandchildren Abbie, Max and Avery Fauth, Lucy and Violet Plzak, and Sophia and Ellazabeth Dekker. He is also survived by his sisters Mary (Greg) Kushner, Linda (Jeff) Sanborn, Anne (Pete) Sparling, loving nieces and nephews and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Greg is a graduate of Aurora East High School (1965), Michigan State University and University of Illinois Dental and Periodontal Schools. Dr. Fauth was a practicing dentist in Aurora since 1973 and limited his practice to periodontics and dental implants in 1982. Active in his profession, Greg taught at the dental school while working on his periodontal degree, was the district trustee for The American Academy of Periodontology for six years, and at the time of his death he was serving as the president of the charitable arm of the foundation. He was also serving as Executive Director of The Midwest Society of Periodontology.

His love of sports began as an avid White Sox fan with his uncles, and continued as he began with little league and played on high school teams and Tiger Club summer leagues. He rarely missed an opening day at White Sox park or a Michigan State football game and attended many Blackhawks hockey games each year. Following his children as they played baseball, rugby, basketball, volleyball and water polo was especially gratifying.

Greg’s enthusiasm for music and marching bands lasted throughout his life. He played cornet with East Aurora High School bands and followed up as a lifelong member of the Michigan State University marching band and Spartan Brass, making trips to the 1966 Rose Bowl as well as participating in Alumni Band days for the past 44 years, and an Alumni Band trip to Scotland. Golfing and woodworking have been favorite adult pastimes.

Throughout his career, Dr. Fauth donated his time and resources back into the community. He has served on the local Mental Health Board and has also volunteered with the United Way. He also coached baseball at all levels in Aurora.

In lieu of flowers, for those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Greg’s life, memorial donations may be made to the Waubonsie Community College Foundation - Edward and Frances Fauth Endowed Scholarship or to the Michigan State University College of Music/Spartan Marching Band.
