Obituary for Fred W. Glatzhofer, Jr.

Fred W. Glatzhofer, Jr. ‘Fritz’, 91, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1936, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 4, 1926 in Cicero, IL.

Fred was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a lifelong resident of Naperville. He was past owner of Naperville Excavating and current owner of Naperville Truck Sales Inc. He is survived by his five daughters: Linda Kaufman of Naperville, Susan (Charles) Greer of Naperville, Betty Jo (Jesse) Saltijeral of Aurora, IL, Debra Shelton of Naperville and Lisa (Robert) Mohler of Oswego, IL. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Kiersten (Cory) Teitelbaum, Eric (BreAnn) Greer, Candace (Paul) Hanson, Daniel (Andrea) Saltijeral, Melissa (Luis) Luna, Laura Saltijeral, Robert (Amy) Shelton, Nicole (Kris) Kaim, Rachael Mohler and Dylan Mohler. Nine great grandchildren: Ryan, Chase, Mason and Stephanie Greer, Drew and Will Hanson, Mathew Saltijeral, River Luna, and Rosemary Teitelbaum. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty and daughter Merry Carol, his siblings Hal Glatzhofer, Eleanor Kerth and Margaret Bast.

Fred was a 1945 graduate of Naperville High School. Upon graduation he was drafted into the U.S. Army/Aircorp and was an airplane radio mechanic during WWII. A few years ago, he was proud to be chosen to participate in one of the Honor Flights for WWII veterans to Washington DC. He Married Betty Fatout in 1948 at Bethany Lutheran Church. He helped his dad and step mother run Emma’s Perennials. While being owner of Naperville Excavating he dug many of the basements of the homes in Naperville that are still being lived in today. In 1962, he opened Naperville Truck Sales Inc. and sold trucks until his recent illness. He loved fishing and spending time with his family. He worked hard and was the most loving father, grandfather and great grandfather anyone could be lucky to have. He was committed to his family and friends. The kindest, most giving man you would ever want to meet.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 19, 2:00 - 8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 20, 11:00 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Rd., Naperville. Interment to follow at Naperville Cemetery.
