Obituary for Frank Mellen

Frank Mellen, age 78, a longtime resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018. He was born on January 7, 1940 in Morris, IL.

Frank is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Carol (nee Nedelsky); his loving children, Bradley Mellen of Jacksonville, NC, Stephanie (Donald) Ennis of Efland, NC, Joseph Mellen of Chicago, IL and Karen (John Corrigan) Mellen of Downers Grove, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Tiffany Hull, Chloe (James Baker) Sanders-Baker and Malcolm Corrigan and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lois (nee Harry) Mellen and his brother, George Mellen, Jr.

Frank studied music at Vandercook University in Chicago. He was the author of a children’s book, “If Only I Could Whistle Loudly”, and was known as the “Circus Poet” for several publications. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Immaculate Parish and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Good Shepherd Council #5573, Plainfield. Special thanks to Drs. Leela Rao and Bruce Corwin for their care over the years. Frank will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Frank’s life, memorials to the Mantellate Sisters Servants of Mary, 16949 South Drauden Rd., Plainfield, IL 60586 would be greatly appreciated.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, 4:00 until 8:30 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 19, 10:30 AM at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. Interment will follow at SS. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, Joliet.
