Obituary for Edward L. Linchester

Edward L. Linchester, age 98, a longtime resident of Lisle, IL, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 13, 1919 in Cicero, IL.

Edward is survived by his son, Edward A. (Christine) Linchester of Lisle, IL; his grandsons, Edward N. (Margaret) Linchester of Plainfield, IL, Frank (Kristi) Linchester of Sugar Grove, IL and Paul (Kristin) Scalpelli of Plainfield, IL; his great-grandchildren, Edward R. Linchester, Sarah Linchester, Natalie Linchester, Matthew Scalpelli and Michael Scalpelli. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita Linchester in 1987; his daughter, Cheryl Scalpelli; his parents, George and Agnes Linchester; his siblings, George “Georgie” Linchester, Jr., Bernice Linchester and John”Jack” Linchester.

Edward proudly served in the U.S. Army, 881st Bombardment Squadron, 500th Bombardment Group during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a true jack-of-all-trades and could fix or build anything from scratch. A talented musician, Ed played trumpet for many years. He was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Church, Lisle.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. The Mass of Christian will be celebrated on Thursday, April 5, 11:30 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 820 Division St., Lisle. Interment with military honors will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
