Obituary for Edella Merrill Erickson

Edella Merrill Erickson, age 75, died Saturday, June 9, 2018 after a courageous battle with leukemia, surrounded by her family.

Edella was born September 10, 1942 in Binghamton, NY and raised in Montrose, PA, the daughter of George Ray Merrill, a Pullman conductor, and his wife, Dorothy Merrill (nee Aldrich). She graduated from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse and practiced for many years, with her special preference being Labor and Delivery. Edella married Kenneth Erickson in 1963, and they had three children and many homes and adventures together before his death in 1994. She married Worth George in 2001, and they enjoyed 16 years together before his death in 2017.

Edella was known for her generous nature, her quick smile and ready laugh. She made a profession of volunteering while at home caring for her youngest daughter as well as in her retirement. She gave countless hours to the Assistance League of Upland, CA and her church.

Edella’s greatest gift, however, was for her family. She showered her children with love and was always ready with a hug, advice, or simply a listening ear. Her big heart yielded a harvest of a close knit, loving family whose bond sustains them in her physical absence. The song of her life is ended, but the harmony lingers in the hearts of those who love her.

Edella is survived by her three children: Katherine Treese, Keith (Holly) Erickson, and Kristine (Bill) Parker; three stepchildren, Diane (Harry) Carpenter, Larry (Kimberley) George, and Lynda (Dave) Sheley; twelve grandchildren, Valerie and Ashley Treese; Chelsey Lemaster, Jeff, Brianne and Meganne Carpenter, Gabriel George, Sam and Stephanie Erickson, and James, Dan and Benji Parker, and one great-grandchild, Brynne Treese.

A celebration of Edella’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, 7:00 PM at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 25 E. Benton Ave, Naperville, IL 60540, (630) 355-1024.
