Obituary for Daniel P. Modesto

Daniel "Dan" P. Modesto, age 57, a Navy veteran and resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away suddenly on January 4, 2018. He was born on August 8, 1960 in Chicago, IL, to Aristide and Sally Modesto.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Sofia (nee Villarreal); his cherished children, Dan R. Modesto, Tony (Jaclyn) Modesto and Devin Fuentes; his mother Sally Modesto; his brother, Gary (Kathy) Modesto; his brother-in-law, Oscar (Ana) Villarreal. His nephews Earl ( Jennifer ) Modesto , Nick (Megan) Modesto and Vickie (Tyler) Svitak. He was preceded in death by his father.
Dan grew up in the Chicago area, graduated Hersey High School, Class of ‘78, earned his BS (electrical) from UIC, and served his country honorably for six years in the U.S. Navy. He had a diverse work history – starting at the age of 15. He worked on cars, with his dad at a family owned terrazzo company, onto a part time stint as DJ for The Loop, moving up in manufacturing industry over the bulk of his career (Dan proudly holds four US Patents), onto his final position as Project Manager with US Silica. Dan worked hard, took pride in all he did and was well respected by his employers. Dan was his happiest in his most current position. His mind just never stopped and he’d say ‘there is no off button on the genius switch’ jokingly. But those are facts, Dan was more than that. Dan was a loving husband, a best friend and lover, a true father to his kids, an uncle, brother, a loyal friend and loved family gatherings. He loved to laugh and make people laugh, classic cars and boating. He was truly at his happiest on those lazy days on our 34-ft boat aptly called ‘Test Drive ‘ and when you added family and friends, he could not be happier.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Dan's life, memorial contributions may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project or Folds of Honor.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 11, 10:00 AM, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
