James E. “Jimmy” Becker, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1984, formerly of Chicago, IL, died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Edward Hospital in Naperville after a long battle with COPD. He was born April 15, 1941 in Chicago. Beloved husband of Ruth (nee Engleman) Becker, whom he married June 19, 1971, loving father of Matthew (Katie) Becker of Plainfield, IL, John (Melissa) Becker of Montgomery, IL and Julie (Ryan) Arnold of Naperville, adored grandfather of James “Little Jimmy”, Tyler, Madelyn, Nicholas and Rylie, devoted son of the late Roy and Alice Becker, dear brother of Richard (Mary) Becker of Crystal Lake, IL and Robert (Patricia) Becker of Spring Grove, IL, fond uncle of many. Jim grew up on Chicago’s Northside, attended Lane Tech High School (Class of 1959) and was a graduate of Michigan State University, East Lansing with a degree in communication/arts. He went on to serve in the Illinois Army National Guard and had a long career in advertising and directing with WGN TV, Catholic Television Network and Leo Burnett Advertising Agency. Jim was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Naperville and was a 43 year member of American Turners Society. He was an enthusiastic fan of all things Michigan State and enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and most of all, spending time with his family. Visitation Thursday, January 26, 3:00-9:00 P.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Services will begin Friday, January 27, 9:30 A.M. from the funeral home and will proceed to 10:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville.
