Bruce R. Bluder
March 31, 1951 - October 11, 2017
Bruce R. Bluder, age 66, a resident of Downers Grove, IL, formerly of Western Springs, IL, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 31, 1951, in Hinsdale, IL.
Beloved son of the late Charles and Hazel (nee Anderson) Bluder, loving brother of Cathy (Bob) Borg of Naperville, adored uncle and devoted "Bonus Dad" of Carrie (Brott) Ritzel of Murphys, CA, Christie (V.) Thakkar of Naperville and Brent (Mandy) Borg of Indianapolis, IN, fond and fun great-uncle and "Bonus Grandpa" to Alyssa, Beck and Cate Ritzel; Aksel, Brock and Charlie Thakkar; Henry, Abe, Wes and Emmett Borg, cousin and dear, true friend of many.
Bruce grew up in Western Springs and was a 1969 graduate of Lyons Township High School, LaGrange, IL, where he played on the varsity basketball team. Bruce’s dearest and oldest friendships began in his youth in Western Springs; he was dedicated to these friends, which were as close to him as family, and deepened and remained through his whole life. Bruce then attended the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and received his bachelor's degree from George Williams College, Downers Grove, IL. He spent his whole career in the service and help of others: he compassionately cared for his mother, Hazel, all through his adult life and worked to help make the lives of others better. He had a direct and loving impact on many, especially the employees and clients at Seguin Services Inc., Cicero, IL, where he worked as a Behavior Analyst for the past 20 years.
Bruce was a diehard Cubs fan since the age of five. He never missed a game and always kept the faith that his beloved Cubbies would some day clinch the title. Bruce also loved the Bears, attending and watching games with dear friends. He was an avid and excellent golfer making trips to Lake Geneva and Florida to spend time with friends on the course. His patience and skill rewarded him as he is one of few who have shot a hole in one!
Bruce was a master at the game of cribbage. Serious and focused on yearly tournaments with his brother-in-law, Bob, and sister Cathy, he went out as champion of the game, and of his family’s heart. It is certain that there will be a re-match in Heaven.
Bruce was also a regular at Redhawk varsity basketball games as well as district, YMCA and high school swim meets. He supported and cheered Carrie, Christie and Brent in all of their events. He was always present, always showed up, and this dedication filtered down into their kids’ games as well.
His many one-liners often repeated and coined specifically to him (such as “What a meal” after a great family dinner) will ring in our ears as all who loved him continue to follow his example of kindness, his direct and compassionate honesty, his calm and loving service to others, his deep love of family and friends, and his dedication loving the Lord with his words and deeds.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, October 20, 2017, 4:00-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL.
A private celebration of life service and inurnment at Parkholm Cemetery in LaGrange Park, IL will take place at a later date.
