Robert E. Rahn

Robert E. Rahn, age 89, a lifelong resident of Plainfield, IL, was born March 5, 1923 in Aurora, IL. He passed away peacefully on February 20, 2013 at his home at The Timbers of Shorewood.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Lu Rahn; his loving children, Edward (Barb) Rahn of Alpharetta, GA, William (Karin) Rahn, Mary Beth (Jerry) Attaway and Raymond (Chari) Rahn, all of Plainfield; his devoted grandchildren, Becky, Jeff (Tam) and Danny Rahn, Kelly (Kyle Lane) Rahn, Rob (Teresa) Carlisle, Jeremy (Tracy) and Heather (fiancé Matt) Attaway, Jason (Kate) and Katie Rahn; his cherished great-grandchildren, Robert, Charlie and Olive Carlisle, Gabi Harvey and Bella Attaway; and his dear sister, Shirl (the late Lester) Moeller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter "Bill" and Lenora Rahn.

Bob was raised in Plainfield as a farmer and graduated from Plainfield High School, class of 1941. He proudly served in the United States Army, 146th Armored Signal Co. during World War II, European Theatre. He married the love of his life, Mary Lu, and devoted his life to her and their four children. He dedicated a 40 year career to AT&T and retired in 1981. Bob was very active in local church, school and sports activities. He was a lifetime member of St Mary Immaculate Parish, as well as a member and past president of the Holy Name Society, a past president of the Plainfield Athletic Club, a member of the Old Timer's Baseball Association, Joliet and the Telephone Pioneer's of America.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be Monday, February 25, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Plainfield. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26, 10:30 AM at St Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. Interment with military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
