Dorothy "Dot" Windes
September 13, 1926 - April 19, 2017
Dorothy "Dot" Windes (nee Duryea), age 90, a resident of Naperville since 1976, formerly of Ironia, NJ, passed on Wednesday, April 19, 2016 at her home. She was born on September 13, 1926 in West Orange, NJ.
Beloved wife of the late Stanley B. Windes, whom she married January 7, 1961 and who preceded her in death on August 28, 2016, loving mother of Edwin (Deborah) Windes of Naperville, IL, Joy (Rick) Hastings of Naperville, and Linda (Dr. Thomas) Zwart of Montgomery, NY, adored grandmother of Laura Windes, Sarah Zwart, Paul Zwart, Maddie Hastings, Carter Hastings, Cassidy Hastings, Sophie Hastings and Bailey Hastings, devoted daughter of the late William E. and Sophie (nee Mundhenk) Duryea and friend of many.
Dottie was a very good student in school who skipped to the head of the class and graduated high school at 16 and enrolled at University of Michigan to major in Chemistry – quite a feat for a woman in 1942. She worked in Pharmaceutical Research until she met and married the love of her life - Stanley in 1961. They had 3 kids, were active in their church and looked for God’s leading in all aspects of their lives. In 1976, the Windes family was relocated to Naperville IL where she lived out the rest of her days enjoying gardening, canning the “fruits” of her labor, sewing, teaching Sunday school & Bible studies. She was not afraid of a challenge – she taught herself many new things like how to navigate around Naperville garage sales in the early 80’s with a map on a bulletin board filled with push pins! Systematic genius. The two things she cherished most were the limitless redeeming love of her Savior Jesus & the love & respect she received from her husband of 55 years. She was an amazing woman who will be greatly missed.
