Alan C. Schwaighart

April 07, 1934 - May 10, 2017

Alan C. “Al” Schwaighart, age 83, a resident of Carillon Lakes in Crest Hill, IL, formerly of Oak Forest, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at his home. He was born April 7, 1934 in Blue Island, IL.
Beloved husband of Kathleen Schwaighart (nee Philbrook), whom he married June 26, 1965,  loving father of Marie (Frank) LaPlante of Northfield, IL, Eric (Julie) Schwaighart of Plainfield and Joel Schwaighart of Tinley Park, IL, adored grandfather of Karis LaPlante; Simone, Leonardo and Sonia Schwaighart, devoted son of the late Paul and Marie Schwaighart, dear brother of Anita (the late Frank) Pellettiere of Olympia Fields, IL and the late Paul and Roger Schwaighart, fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.

Al grew up in Midlothian, IL, was a graduate of St. Christopher Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School (Class of 1952) and attended two years at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957, Al earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago and worked his entire career with Acme Steel in Riverdale, IL.

Al was a former member of St. Damian Catholic Church, Oak Forest, IL and was a current member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Plainfield.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading and sang in the Carillon Lakes Men’s Chorus and the St. Mary Immaculate funeral choir.

Funeral Information

Visitation Monday, May 15, 2017, 4:00-8:00 PM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield, IL.  

Services will begin Tuesday, May 16, 10:00 AM from the funeral home and will proceed to a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield.  

Future inurnment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
