Ann Kwan Oi Lee
November 15, 1926 - October 27, 2017
Ann Kwan Oi Lee (née Leung, born November 15, 1926), a resident of Naperville, IL, passed away on Friday October 27, 2017. She was the middle child born into a family of five siblings: older brother, older sister, herself, younger sister and younger brother. The happy times of her early childhood didn’t last long before her family in China had to flee from the fighting in World War II followed by the civil war - Communist Revolution–enduring 13 continuous years of war. The siblings split up during this time with the hopes that they would survive by the time peace came. Her oldest brother stayed back in their southern Chinese village, while she and her two younger siblings found their way to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, she trained as a seamstress and made a living thereas such until she met her husband, Steve Shee Ting Lee. The happy couple married on June 26, 1962 - shortly thereafter emigrating to Canada, her husband’s home country and place of birth. Her first child, Anne, was born on September 1963. Her second child, Albert, was born during a blizzard on March 1965. The young family moved to Chicago in 1966 and eventually settled on the north side, a little more than a mile from Wrigley Field, in the Asian enclave of the Argyle community. When her husband fell ill, Ann returned to work as a seamstress while raising two young children and maintaining the household. After her husband passed, she saw to it that her children were provided for and eventually sent them both off to college. Both completed graduate degrees and became successful in their chosen careers. At age 66, she retired from her 25+ years as a seamstress and spent time living with her daughter and son in the Chicago and St. Louis areas, respectively. In retirement, her children took her on vacations across the US, Canada, Hong Kong and China – visiting at least 14 different cities. She loved to walk, garden, and sew and continued to do these activities until late in life. She is survived by her daughter, Anne; son, Albert; daughter-in-law, Lee; her younger sister, younger brother, and extended family.
Ann's family would be honored if you would join them for a visitation on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10:00 AM to Noon at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540. A Funeral Service will follow at Noon in the funeral home chapel.
