Marilyn Melida Spencer

October 29, 1934 - August 22, 2012

Marilyn Melida Spencer, age 77, a longtime resident of DuPage County and most recently of Freeport, IL, passed away August 22, 2012 in Freeport.

She was born October 29, 1934 in Elgin, IL.

Marilyn is survived by her loving sons, Scott and Jeff (Shelly) Spencer; her brother, Frank (Carolyn) Jacobs; her sister-in-law, Judy (Sam) Hipple; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Judge Charles W. Spencer of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in DuPage County; her parents, Harry and Eunice Jacobs; her sister, Winifred (and the late James Orval) Burk; her parents-in-law, Roswell and Effie Spencer; and her brother-in-law, Richard Spencer and sister-in-law, Shirley (and the late Ed) Boyer.

Marilyn was a graduate of Elmhurst College. She was a pre-school teacher in Wheaton and Roselle. As an educator, she also tutored for many years. She was a paralegal for her husband as he performed Weddings in the years after serving on the bench in which they much enjoyed. Marilyn liked reading, playing cards, playing the flute, making greeting cards, cooking for her family, and keeping in touch with friends on her computer. She was a very gracious, witty person, who gave back the same to those who surrounded her.

For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Marilyn’s life, memorials may be made in her name to Trinity Lutheran Preschool in care of Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 South Rush Street, Roselle, IL 60172.

Visitation will be Friday, September 7th, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill, Naperville, IL. The funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 8th, 10:30 AM at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien.
