John J. "Jack" Lenahan

John J. "Jack" Lenahan, age 89, formerly of Chicago and Willowbrook, IL, passed on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Sunrise Assisted Living North in Naperville. He was born November 12, 1927 in Chicago, IL.

Beloved husband of the late Dolores C. "Dody" Lenahan, nee Nolan, whom he married August 26, 1950 and who preceded him in death on May 10, 2008, loving father of  John (Margaret) Lenahan, James (Trish) Lenahan, Mary Kay (Steve) Templeton, Jerry (Sue) Lenahan, Thomas (Donna) Lenahan, Donna (John) Danaher, Tricia (Jim) Ajamie; beloved grandfather of  John (Wadad), Erin (Matt) Witmer, Mary (Eamon) Monahan, Meg (Christian) Gomes and Brigid Lenahan; James, Katie and Maura Lenahan; Michelle (Ken) New and Charlie (Melissa) Templeton; Nolan (Kelley) and Colleen Lenahan; Thomas (Angela), Joseph (Elizabeth) and Patrick (Savannah) Lenahan; Sean (Sarah Jane), Matthew (Jennifer), Michael (Elizabeth) and Amy (Michael) Coyle; Jack, Mya, and Tya Ajamie; cherished great-grandfather of Faris and Noura Lenahan; Luke and James Witmer: Maeve Monahan; Quinn and Avery New; Nathan Templeton; Ryan, Mackenzie and Molly Lenahan; Olivia and Landon Lenahan; Riley and Keegan Danaher; Gracie and Thomas Danaher; Owen Danaher, devoted son of the late James J. and Catherine (nee Gaffney) Lenahan, dear brother of the late James, Ann and Catherine, brother-in-law of Helen (the late Jack) Farnan, the late James (Holly) Nolan and the late Thomas (the late Julanne) Nolan, fond uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.   

Jack grew up on Chicago's South Side, attended Visitation Grade School and was a 1945 graduate of Leo High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and, after the war, attended the Ray Vogue School of Photography. Jack was employed as a photographer for the Chicago Sun-Times for 42 years, retiring in 1992. Jack was a longtime member of St. Denis Parish in Chicago and enjoyed photography, travel and spending time with his family.  

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2017, 4:00-8:00 at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL.

Additional visitation Thursday, February 9, 9:00-10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Thursday, 10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Residence.

Future Inurnment: Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien, IL.
