Carol Marjorie (Vaklyes) Hahn, a resident of Naperville since 1985, passed away at age of 59 on Thursday, April 27, 2017, after a long 6 year and 4 month battle against pancreatic cancer. She beat all the medical odds of this disease with her spirit, strong will, and determination. She enjoyed life, family, and friends to the fullest during these times as she did her whole life. She was the beloved mother of Amy Elizabeth Hahn, who has special needs, and loving wife for 33 years of Patrick J. Hahn of Aurora. She was the devoted daughter of the late Edmond and Marjorie Vaklyes of Arrowhead (Wheaton), dear sister of her late brother Ned Vaklyes (Waukesha, Wisconsin), and her close dear sister and friend Nancy (Vaklyes) Eddy (Ormond Beach, Florida). She is survived also by her brother-in-law Mike Eddy (Florida), sister-in-law Sue (Hahn) Spencer (Michigan) and Sue’s husband Robert, brother-in-law Bob Hahn (California), Sister-in-law Karen (Iwersen) Vaklyes (Wisconsin). Nieces and Nephews Katie and Christopher Pircher (Nancy Eddy), Joe and Molly Vaklyes, Jason and Harriet Vaklyes, AJ Vaklyes, Liz and Billy Hahn. Carol was born in Wilmington Delaware November 6, 1957, and at the age of 7 moved with her family to Arrowhead-Wheaton where she was raised and attended Wheaton-Warrenville High School. She was a lifeguard and competitive swimmer reaching the national championship level and won many swim meets. Carol loved to go fishing in Wisconsin with her husband, visiting with her sister in Florida, and going Christmas shopping with her sister-in-law (Sue) on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile the Monday after Thanksgiving. Carol loved going to Cubs games with her best friend Donna Rehs. She also loved to dance, cook, and garden. She loved organizing parties for family, friends, and work. Christmas was her most favorite time of the year and she loved decorating the house and hosting the family Christmas gathering at her home. She helped with significant fund raising for the annual American Cancer Society - Relay for Life event in Naperville. She held various positions in the banking business throughout her 40 year career from bank teller in the early years, to a financial coordinator at a multi-bank data center, and most recently was an office manager and financial coordinator for Wintrust Financial.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 1st from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. All are welcome to gather on Tuesday, May 2, for the final committal services at 1:30 PM at the chapel at Assumption Catholic Cemetery,1S510 Winfield Rd, Wheaton.
