Frank Parks Jr.

Frank Parks Jr. “Toop” was born on April 22, 1920 to Frank D. Parks and Florence Ericson Parks at St Joseph’s Hospital in Joliet, IL. He attended Farragut Grade School, graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1938, and attended Joliet Junior College during 1938-39. On August 23, 1941, he married Margaret Duffy and they celebrated 71 years of marriage. Frank passed away peacefully on May 9, 2017 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Marge (2013) and his parents, older brother Dick Parks (Dorothy), and his son-in-law Robert Baitinger(Carolyn).
Frank is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Baitinger and Phyllis MacDonald and son- in- law Neal MacDonald. Also surviving are his three grandchildren: Maureen (Brad) MacDonald- Stein, Brian (Trish) MacDonald and Barbara Baitinger Lantz; and his four great- grandchildren: Emily Lantz, Austin and Tyler Stein, and Sydney and Colin MacDonald.
Frank enlisted into the Navy in August of 1943 and served with the Seabees in Guam until January 1946. After the war he worked for the Public Service in Joliet, built a home on River Road in Plainfield, served as Commander of the Plainfield American Legion Marine Post 13, and became a member of the Masonic Lodge #536 in Plainfield. Frank and his brother opened Parks Bros. Supermarket in Plainfield in 1958 and a second store in Sandwich, IL in 1960. Frank was also Board Chairman of the Plainfield National Bank for 12 years. He retired from the grocery business in 1983. Frank was an avid outdoor sportsman of hunting and fishing. In late 1979 he built a cottage on Lake of Egypt near Marion, IL that he frequented after his retirement. Upon his death Frank had been a member of the Plainfield Congregational Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 70 year member of the American Legion.
Visitation will be at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Friday, May 12, 2017 3:00-8:00 PM and Saturday, May 13 from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 11:00 AM. Pastor Bill Beagle will officiate. Interment will follow at the Plainfield Township Cemetery.
