Mardel R. Rock

Mardel R. Rock (nee Corwin), age 88, a resident of Plainfield, IL since 1979, formerly of Joliet and Crest Hill, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was born January 23, 1929 in Joliet.
Beloved wife of the late Richard A. Rock (former Mayor of Plainfield 1997-2004), whom she married No-vember 18, 1950 and who preceded her in death June 27, 2004, devoted daughter of the late Montrose and Mabel (nee Miller) Corwin, loving sister of Jean (Frank) Conroy of Joliet, IL, Jackie (the late James)Schwab of Crest Hill, IL, the late Edward (Pat) Corwin of Evergreen, CO and the late Monte Corwin, adored cousin of many, including Douglas (Judi) Corwin of Portage, MI, fond aunt, great-aunt and friend of many, including dear friend, Cheryl Henbest.
Mardel grew up in Joliet, was a 1947 graduate of Joliet Township High School and was employed with Illinois Bell, Joliet for 35 years, retiring in 1986. She was a longtime member of Christ First Baptist Church, Minooka, IL and the Telephone Pioneers of America, where she was past-president and secretary of the Joliet Chapter. Mardel was also active in Friends of United Cerebral Palsy (UPC) in Joliet and was the first female recipient of the Melvin J. Larson Service Award.
Mardel was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cub’s baseball team. She faithfully traveled to cheer on the Cubs at Spring Training and at many major league stadiums around the country. She was thrilled to see them win their first World Series in over 100 years!
Visitation Thursday, March 16, 2017, 4:00-8:00 PM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Road (Corner of Rts. 30 & 59), Plainfield.
Additional visitation Friday, March 17, 9:00-10:00 AM at Christ First Baptist Church, 4295 Van Dyke Rd., Minooka, IL 60447, (815) 475-7101.
Funeral services will follow Friday, 10:00 AM in the church with Rev. Andrew O’Neal officiating.
Interment: Plainfield Township Cemetery, Plainfield.
