Roberta L. O'Connor
February 17, 1926 - March 05, 2017
Roberta O’Connor (nee Lewis), age 91, resident of Lisle, IL since 2007 and former resident of Naperville, IL passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living in Lisle. She was born February 17, 1926 in Monmouth, IL to the late L. Thompson and Mary (nee Miller) Lewis.
Beloved wife of the late F. Coyne O’Connor whom she married August 2, 1952 and who preceded her in death on October 25, 1992. Loving mother of Nancy (Jeff) Rice, Timothy (Ann) O'Connor, Janet (Barry) Carpenter, Mary (Eric) Krause and Thomas (Jacqueline) O'Connor. Doting grandmother of Cassandra (Mathew Davidson) O'Connor, Samuel, Molly, Reagan, Lauren and Jack O'Connor; Kristina (Andrew) Kuntz and Scott (Laura) Carpenter; Carl (Malorie) Krause and Neil Krause; Derrick O'Connor. Proud great grandmother of Russell and Annella Davidson; Beckett, Decker and Harper Kuntz; and Griffin Carpenter.
Roberta was born a farmer’s daughter in Monmouth, IL, and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1944. She attended Bradley University, enjoyed sisterhood as a member of the Beta Nu Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1948. After graduating college, she moved to Chicago where she worked as a bookkeeper at First National Bank of Chicago. While in Chicago she met and married Coyne and began her family.
They built a home and moved to Naperville in 1960. In their home, they enjoyed many home cooked meals, kitchen table conversations, games of dominoes, hands of canasta, and rounds of Uno. Their hearth and home was filled with love and family antics. Stories abound of ball games, broken windows, time spent at the top of the stairs, the quirks of day-to-day family life, and the enduring mystery of the dart in the basement television. She was a member and officer of the Fort Payne chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, and jigsaw puzzles. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Penny Wise thrift shop of the St. John’s Episcopal Church. She was a hockey mom, Girl Scout mom, baseball mom, and “adopted” mom of many family friends.
During her years in Naperville she was a charter member of Naperville Christian Church. She loved the Lord with all her heart, her mind, and her soul. She attended Thursday Morning Bible Study, and she was the treasurer at the Church for many years. Her favorite hymn was “How Great Thou Art.” She now resides in her heavenly home.
