Joshua W. Grist

August 28, 1978 - February 01, 2017

Joshua W. “Josh” Grist, age 38, a resident of Plainfield, IL since August 2016, formerly of Visalia, CA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his home. He was born August 28, 1978 in Jacksonville, NC.

Beloved son of Lynn and Donna (nee Romanazzi) Grist of Plainfield, IL, loving brother of Stacy (Mark) Slinkman of Countryside, IL, Shawn Grist of Visalia, CA and Phillip (Kellii) Grist of Woodridge, IL, adored uncle of Joseph, William and Nicholas Slinkman; Zeb and Zeke Grist and Luke Grist, cherished grandson of the late Sam and Isabel Grist and the late Lawrence and Ida Romanazzi, dear nephew, cousin and friend of many.

The son of a U.S. Marine, Joshua lived in Visalia and Oceanside, CA and New Orleans, LA growing up. His family later settled back in Visalia where Joshua graduated in 1997 from Mt. Whitney High School.

Joshua lived and breathed football, served as an assistant football coach at Mt. Whitney High School and was a diehard fan of the Carolina Panthers. He was a proud, longtime member of the Sons of Italy, Enrico Caruso Lodge, Visalia, CA and a recent member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield.     

Funeral Information

Visitation Saturday, February 11, 2017, 9:00-10:30 AM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield, IL.  

Services will begin Saturday, 10:30 AM from the funeral home and will proceed to an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield.  

Interment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 18, 2017, 10:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5049 W. Caldwell Ave., Visalia, CA 93277, (559) 734-9522.
