Joseph L. "Joe" Wilson

October 18, 1934 - September 27, 2017

Joseph L. "Joe" Wilson, Jr., age 82, Korean War and Vietnam War U.S. Air Force veteran with 25 years of active duty service to the United States, a resident of Bolingbrook, IL since 2003, formerly of Darien and Downers Grove, IL, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Adventist Bolingbrook Medical Center, Bolingbrook.  He was born in Chicago, IL.

Beloved husband of Cathy Bedoya-Wilson, loving father of four Katherine Craff, Juan (Elizabeth "Lisa") Craff, Leslie (Ishmael "Mike") Covarrubias and Jorge Craff, adored grandfather of ten, Corey, Alexander, Antonio, Natalie, Olivia, Diego, Joshua, Jonah, Jacob, and Marrissa, devoted son of the late Joseph and Rose Wilson, dear brother of Brunetta "Sis" Wilson, Susan "Sue" (the late Bob) Parker, Sally Wilson, Rosemary "Cookie" Ceck, Corklin "Corky" (Julia) Wilson and Robert (Sharon) Wilson, fond uncle to a large number of nieces and nephews of his brothers and sisters as well as Cathy's.  Caring brother-in-law, cousin, great-uncle and friend of many.

Joe voluntarily enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 at the young age of 17 years. He held positions of Air Freight Specialist, Air Cargo Specialist, Air Transport Supervisor and Materials Facilities Supervisor until he retired in 1975.  He served as Air Rescue as well as Radio Communications in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement he studied at Southern Illinois University and acquired a Bachelor's Degree in Computers and also studied at the Chicago Art Institute.  He worked as a manager at Chrysler, AmsOil, and Royal/Thompson Rentals. He also worked at Moore Medical, Sears, Bed Bath & Beyond and First Student.  When not working he spent his time painting, sketching, dancing and caring for his ten grandchildren. His hobbies included collecting music and movies. He built a large library of  vinyl records, 8 track tapes, cassette tapes and CDs of many different kinds of music along with VHS and  DVD movies. He loved sweets and nuts!

Joe was a kind, happy and gentle man with a lot of love to give. His family will miss him dearly, but we know he will continue to watch over us. His star will forever shine!

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017, 4:00-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. 

Family and friends will meet Friday, October 6, 10:00 AM at the funeral home for a final viewing and will then go in procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421, (815) 423-9958 for a Friday, Noon committal service with military honors.
