Albert T. "Al" Mooney, Jr., age 83, U.S. Army veteran, a resident of Aurora, IL, formerly of Naperville, IL and Hilton Head Island, SC, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Rush-Copley Medical Center, Aurora, IL. He was born February 4, 1934 in Trenton, NJ.
Beloved husband of Joyce C. Mooney (nee Bailey), whom he married July 24, 1954, loving father of Kevin (Kristin) Mooney of New York City, NY, and Kathleen (Marc) Hausmann of Aurora, adored grandfather of Kyle, Mariska, Macayli and Lyndsi, devoted son of the late Albert T., Sr. and Agnes (nee Fitzgerald) Mooney, brother-in-law of Betty Jane (the late Stanley) Chmura of Tinton Falls, NJ, fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
Al grew up in Trenton, NJ, was a 1951 graduate of Trenton Central High School and attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He served with the U.S. Army from December 1956 – June 1958, stationed in Nahant, MA. After receiving an honorable discharge, Al began a long and successful career with Sears, Roebuck and Company, Chicago, retiring as an executive in 1994, after 35 years of service.
Al was a member of Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church, Aurora, IL. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, proudly attending 18 Super Bowls and could recite obscure baseball statistics with ease. After retirement, Al was a “featured extra” in movies and community theater (Hilton Head). His movie credits included The Legend of Bagger Vance, The Gift, Baby’s Day Out, Primal Fear and Radio. He also enjoyed bowling, golf and especially loved the Christmas season.
Visitation Friday, December 8, 2017, 5:30-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St, Naperville.
Family and friends will meet Saturday, December 9th at Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1820 Church Rd, Aurora, IL to celebrate a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial.
