Toni Cooper

July 25, 1939 - July 13, 2017

Toni Cooper (nee Lane), age 77, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1969, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at her home.  She was born on July 25, 1939, in New York City, NY to the late Mae and John S. Lane, Jr. She grew up in Omaha, NE and attended Omaha Technical High School, Class of 1957.

On July 26, 1958, Toni married Donald E. Cooper in Washington DC, where Don was serving at the Patuxent US Naval Air Station in Maryland.  After Don was discharged they moved to Illinois and raised five sons and seven daughters in Naperville. They were married for 40 years.

As a devout Catholic it was her passion to honor God with faith, love and service.  She was a dynamo of energy, a natural cheerleader, who continually offered loving support and encouragement to all.  Toni trusted in God completely and shared her gift of intercessory prayer by lifting up all who needed comfort, grace, or divine assistance. She loved teaching people about the love, grace and mercy of God and she did this by arranging the Cooper Family Singers to visit Nursing Homes and Hospitals.  Toni did many things very well, but being a Mother and Grandma was what she loved best. 

Toni is survived by her children:  Don (Theresa) Cooper, Joseph Cooper, Jeannene (Tim) O'Neil, Timothy (Linda) Cooper, Tammy (Scott) Johnson, John (Sheri) Cooper, Dan (Christine) Cooper, Ruthie (Joe) O'Malley, Rose Marie (Chris) Nendick, DeDe (Robert) Ley, Teri (Ken) Thurman and MaryAnne (Bryan) Szweda.   

She is also survived by her grandchildren: DJ (Sarah) Cooper and Robert Cooper; Julia (Laura) O'Neil-Means, Katie (Christian) O'Neil-Lehmann and Andrew O'Neil; Timmy Cooper Jr., Lindsay Cooper, Lauren Cooper Leah Cooper; Jackie (Jimmy) Lenert,  Jamie (John) Kaminski, Scott Johnson Jr., Josie Johnson, Jimi Jo Johnson, Vincent, Johnson and Jadie Joy Johnson; Amanda Cooper, Abby Cooper, Alexandra Cooper and Andrea Cooper; Hannah Cooper, Jack Cooper, Nicholas Cooper, Sophia Cooper and Charlotte Cooper; Joe O'Malley Jr., Max O'Malley, Sam O'Malley, and Leo O'Malley;  Olivia Rose Nendick, Angelina Nendick, Christopher Nendick, David Nendick and  Michael Nendick; Robert Ley Jr., Jacob Ley, Jana Ley, Rachel Ley, Catie Ley, Isaac Ley, Isabella Ley and Miriam Ley; Mary Rose Thurman, Ken Thurman Jr. , Michael Thurman, Matthew Thurman, Anna Marie Thurman, Lily Thurman and Jane Thurman;  Maggie Szweda, Thomas Szweda, Mia Szweda, Molly Szweda, James Szweda, and Luke Szweda. 

Toni is also survived by her great-grandchildren:  Emily Cooper, Ella Cooper, DJ Jr., Elaine Cooper, Edel Cooper, Augustine Cooper and Anthony Cooper;  Savannah Lenert, Jimmy Lenert Jr. and Jay Lenert; Lucy Kaminski, Holly Kaminski, Missy Kaminski. 

She is also survived by two brothers, Patrick (Karen)Lane and Michael Lane, her sisters, Diane Webb, Becky Jo (George) Elster, Rene (Joe) Laird, and her brother-in-law, Robert H. (Alice) Cooper and many nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on December 27, 1998, her parents, Mae and John S. Lane, Jr., her brother, John S. Lane, III and grandsons, Benjamin and Anthony Cooper.

Funeral Information

Visitation Monday, July 17, 3:00-9:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville.

A private Requiem Mass will be held Tuesday, July 18th.

Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville, IL.

After the cemetery services, everyone is cordially invited to join the family for a luncheon reception starting Tuesday, 12:30 PM at the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, 908 W. Jackson, Naperville, IL 60540.
