Donald E. "Don" Jones

Donald E. Jones, age 89, of Wheaton, IL, formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Wynscape Nursing Home in Wheaton, IL. He was born August 12, 1923 in Kansas City, MO.

Beloved husband of the late Kathleen (née Kamm) Jones, whom he married June 16, 1947 and who preceded him in death September 11, 2010, loving father of Darrell (Sherrie) Jones of Chicago, James (Linda) Jones of Naperville and Gerald (Georja) Jones of Santa Monica, CA, cherished grandfather of Matthew Tyler Jones, Jennifer Jones Garcia, Jessica (Jason) Moment, Zachary (Julie-Lynn) Jones, Tamara (James) Martin and Lauren Jones, dear great-grandfather of Evan, Stella, and Cecilia Jones; Henry and Isabel Moment, devoted son of the late W. Wesley and Alma Jones, dear brother of Warren (Carol) Jones and Kathryn (William) Stuck of Leawood, KS, fond uncle of many.

Don was a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a degree in Chemical Engineering and served as an engineering officer with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He began a long career with Standard Oil (Indiana) in 1947 and retired as Vice-President in 1981. Among his professional achievements was the building of the Amoco Milford Haven Refinery in his ancestral homeland, Wales. Don was a member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). He was an active member in many churches and frequently taught Adult Sunday school. Don enjoyed genealogical research, was active with the Boys Scouts Executive Council, and authored the book Searching for Jonah.

Funeral Information

Memorial Visitation Saturday, January 12, 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A memorial service will begin Saturday, 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Rev. Cindy Karis officiating.

Interment will follow at Naperville Cemetery, Naperville, IL.
