Robert E. Hanke

December 21, 1940 - September 25, 2017

Robert E. "Bob" Hanke, age 76, a resident of the Carillon at Stonegate in Aurora, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2017, following a long illness. He was born on December 21, 1940.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Karen (nee Kleppner) Hanke; his daughter, Jamee (Keith) Wojtanowicz; his three grandchildren, Kate, Ryan and Matthew Wojtanowicz; his sister, Dorothy (Dan) Unger; his brother, Tom (Sherry) Hanke; and sister-in-law, Lilo Hanke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Hanke and his brother, Vincent Hanke.

Bob worked for Montgomery Ward for 21 years and later he and his wife owned and operated a graphic design firm. He proudly served in the United States Navy after high school and them went on to attend North Central College. While a student at North Central he participated in a summer exchange program working for a company in Barcelona, Spain. It was this experience that fueled his life long passion for travel. Bob visited thirty-seven countries and thirty-seven states. He enjoyed all types of music and loved to bike, hike and dance. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. Bob will be remembered as a kind, caring and gentle man with the most wonderful smile.

Funeral Information

Family and friends are invited to gather together on Tuesday, October 3, for visitaiton from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the River Glen Presbyterian Church, 1140 Raymond Dr., Naperville, IL 60563. The Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
